What Asset Ranch does

Asset Ranch is a Chrome extension that lets you search for devices on your Meraki network by MAC address. It does this by connecting directly to the Meraki Dashboard API using an API key that you provide.

Information the extension accesses

To function, Asset Ranch requests:

  • Your Meraki API key, which you enter yourself, so the extension can authenticate with the Meraki Dashboard API on your behalf.
  • Network and device data returned by the Meraki API, such as organization and network names, access point names, connected client MAC addresses, device names, signal strength, and last-seen timestamps.

Asset Ranch only requests the data needed to display search results inside the extension. It does not request access to your browsing history, other tabs, or any data outside of what the Meraki API returns.

How your data is stored

Your Meraki API key is stored locally in your browser's extension storage. It is not transmitted to Asset Ranch or any third party — the extension uses it to talk directly to Meraki's own API. Search results are displayed in the extension popup and are not retained by Asset Ranch after your browser session ends.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell or share your API key, network data, or device information with third parties.
  • We don't run our own servers that store copies of your Meraki data.
  • We don't use your data for advertising.

Future premium features

If premium features (such as saved lists or lookup history) are introduced, this policy will be updated in advance to describe any additional data those features store, and where that data is kept.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
